wow how's that screen comes up? i can only see those 4 button on the top. everything else is blank white --"
i'm using umbraco v4.0
having
win xp pro
iis enabled
not using any virtual directories
my computer connected to domain domain controller
installed all the prerequisites (including VS 2005 and VS 2008)
4 of my other collages also having the same problem.
i thought it was because i choose basic feature, i delete everything and start all over. then the routine just getting back again. lost of errors occur again, from invalid object umbracouser to everything with permission denied even though i've grant the aspnet full permission. i'm going nuts with this. HELP!!
Okay then. Strange that it should go wrong after an apparently successful install, but let's try a few things...
1. Do you get the Runway (Boost) homepage if you go to http://localhost?
2. Have all the files extracted correctly? In addition to default.aspx and web.config, you should have the following folders in your root:
appcode, bin, config, css, data, install, masterpages, media, python, scripts, umbraco, umbracoclient, usercontrols, xslt
3. Have you set the ASPNET account permission on the root folder or just the ones listed in the setup instructions? Just curious here. I like to set it on the root, but make sure permissions are propegating down. Have a look at a file in /umbraco/images/, say... does ASPNET have permission on that?
Interesting that your colleagues have the same problem. Have they each run the install on their machines or are they accessing yours?
I'm getting the same problem as maverrick and I've had enough, I've wasted too much time on this. This CMS is totally unimpressive, lacks proper support at every level, and has a ridiculous and very problematic installation process.

So that's all you see? There's nothing at all below those buttons?
The screen should look something like this (with a Content tree and Sections buttons...)
... Then it sounds like something odd has happened in your install process. Please confirm and then we'll try to get to the bottom of the problem.

When you granted aspnet full permissions did you set it to reapply the rights to all subdirectories?
